Hosting a website beside a Ubuntu server?

I also don't find what you mean about being competent to type in the URL and getting the files. what would the URL be? My teacher is letting me borrow her ubuntu server to put up a website for the rest of the year. The problem is I have no model what I am doing! She has created a user account for me and in my home files in attendance is public_html. SO I figured I should put my index and everything else in there right? but immediately how do I broadcast that on the web? I am also trying to buy a domain name for it but I have no impression on how to link my server with the domain name or anything. All I can find on the net is a lot of technical jargon on editing the actual server code and installing apache2. All of that should be contained by place already. Can somebody please help me?

is it ubuntu server or ubuntu desktop? There is a difference in initial install though either can be made to look close to the other.
Can you reach the server from a non-school computer? If not, you do not need to buy a domain name. You inevitability to talk to the school network associates to help you advertize the correct name to get to the server.
Can you obtain to any page on the server through a browser with a URI that starts http:// ? If yes, then apache is already working.
go to the ubuntu network site for more support on this - it is not difficult but it can be detailed.
You will have to put the nameservers in your domain account and nouns domain into the hosting account.
